Alcohols are organic molecules containing one or more hydroxy (-OH) groups. The general formula of an alcohol is R—OH. Alcohols are classified as primary (1o), secondary (2o), or tertiary (3o) accordingly as the carbon to which the hydroxy group is bonded is itself bonded to one, two, or three carbons.
